To celebrate Europe Day in 2016, an escape room — also known as a puzzle or a challenge room — was set up in the Šilalė District Municipal Public Library. This was the first escape room of its kind not only in the Tauragė region but also Lithuanian libraries in general.

The puzzle room is an intellectual game designed to present a specific theme in an interactive and engaging way. The aim of the game is to solve the puzzles and find the exit within 60 minutes. Participants are usually locked in the room in groups of four. They have to figure out how to escape by looking for clues and answering logical questions.

The Šilalė District Municipal Public Library updates its puzzle rooms with new themes, tasks and decorations every year.

Themed rooms that have been available so far include:

• ‘Escape to Europe’, dedicated to Europe Day.
• ‘In Search of the Act of Independence’, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the restoration of Lithuania.
• Agatha Christie's Detective Story, dedicated to the Queen of Detective Stories.
