  1. Aušrienė – Rybačiauskaitė Henrika. District‘s literary. Born on the 17th of November 1930 in Kėdainiai district, Vaidatoniai village. From 1958 to 2000 worked as a  teacher of Lithuanian language at Šilalė’s high school (now – Šilalė Simonas Gaudėšius gymnasium).
  2. Baltikauskas Juozas. Writer, poet, prose writer, teacher. Was born on the 28th of November 1902 in Užjūrys (Šilalė volost). From 1937 to 1940 he was the head of the Kvėdarna library. Died around 1969, buried in Pajūris cemetery.
  3. Bielskis Petras. Lithuanian director, theatrologist, doctor of humanitarian sciences. Was born on 20th of February 1935 in Mėčiai (Laukuva volost). Awarded the title of honourary citizen of Šilalė.
  4. Biržiškis Jonas. Lithuanian road engineer, a political and public figure. Was born on the 12th of April 1932 in Bagdonai (Kaltinėnai volost). Awarded the title of honorary citizen of Šilalė.
  5. Biržiškis Stanislovas. Lithuanian agronomist, teacher, ethnographer, political and public figure of Šilalė, poet, philatelist. Was born on the 19th of November 1900 in Pailgotis (Šilalė volost). Was one of the first originators of exploratory philately in Lithuania. Died on the 19th of March 1996 in Kaunas, buried at Karmėlava cemetery (Kaunas district).
  6. Čilvinaitė Marijona. Ethnographer, local historian, librarian, teacher of many other local historians. Was born on the 6th of April 1900 in Upyna (Kaltinėnai volost). Died on the 28th of April 1995, buried in Kaltinėnai cemetery.
  7. Dautaras Jonas. Teacher, librarian, doctor of social sciences. Was born on the 2nd of October 1937 in Pavėriai (Skaudvilė volost).
  8. Gaudėšius Simonas. Lithuanian pharmacist, philanthropist, Šilalė volost public figure. Was born in 1880 in Veikšniai volost. Around 1897 he became the owner of a pharmacy in Šilalė. Died on the 23rd of February 1942 in exile in Komi.
  9. Gečas Jonas. Lithuanian military and political figure, diplomat, a reserve colonel. Was born on the 29th of March 1953 in Teneniai (Šilalė district).
  10. Gerlikas Pranciškus. Painter, portraitist, a long-time member of the Lithuanian Painter's Association. Was born on the 15th of April 1940 in Mažrimai (Šilalė district). Died on the 6th of May 2020, buried at Šilalė cemetery.
  11. Gerlikienė Petronėlė. Lithuanian folk artist, painter, textile artist. Was born on the 19th of June 1905 in Chicago. In 1908, together with her parents came back to Lithuania and lived in Mažrimai village (Šilalė volost). Died on the 14th of March 1979, buried in Šilalė cemetery.
  12. Girėnas Stasys. Lithuanian and American aviator, in 1933 together with Steponas Darius flew over the Atlantic Ocean in a plane called ‘Lithuanica’. Was born on the 4th of October 1893 in Vytogala (Kaltinėnai volost). Died on the 17th of July 1933 in Soldin, Germany. His body was embalmed after his death. On the 1st of November 1937 was transferred to a mausoleum in the old Kaunas cemetery. In 1940 his remains were transferred to the Vytautas Magnus University Medical Faculty for re-embalmming. In 1964 he was reburied in Kaunas, in the war cemetery of Aukštieji Šančiai.
  13. Girčytė-Balienė Stasė. Soloist of the National Opera and Ballet Theatre, was born on the 8th of November, 1926 in Laukuva, Šilalė district.
  14. Grinkevičiūtė Dalia. Lithuanian doctor, writer. Wrote about her memories of exiled life and experiences near the Arctic Circle. Was born on the 28th of May 1927 Kaunas. From 1960 to 1974 worked in Laukuva hospital. Died on the 25th of December 1987, buried in Eiguliai cemetery, Kaunas.
  15. Ivinskis Laurynas. Poet, publicist, translator, first Lithuanian calendar publisher, educator of the public. Was born on the 15th of August 1810 in Bambalai (Užventis volost). Died on the 29th of July 1881 in Maldives, buried in Kuršėnai. Christened in the church of Šilalė.
  16. Jankauskytė-Rabačiauskienė Angelė. Lithuanian radio and press journalist, member of the Lithuanian Journalists' Association, poet. Was born on the 10th of April 1952 in Didkiemis, Šilalė district.
  17. Jaunius Kazimieras. Theologist, Lithuanian linguist. Was born on the 18th of May 1848 in the Lembas village (Kvėdarna volost). He codified the Lithuanian language dialects, described the pitch-accent parts of the language, created new grammatical terms, studied the connections between the Lithuanian language and other languages. From 1880 he was a teacher of catechism, Latin and Lithuanian in a seminary, chaplain of a girls' gymnasium, secretary of the bishop of Samogitia. From 1885 to 1886 he was the professor of Lithuanian language and homiletics (the art of preaching). Died on the 9th of March 1908 in Petersburg, buried in the Kaunas city cemetery.
  18. Jonikas Leonas (slapyvardis Laukuviškis). Lithuanian journalist, editor, public figure of Lithuanians in the USA. Was born on the 10th of April 1891 in Apšurva (Laukuva volost). Died on the 3rd of November 1969 Chicago. In 1975 the urn with his remains was buried in Laukuva cemetery.
  19. Jurgutis Vytautas. Lithuanian composer, teacher. Was born on the 10th of July 1930 in Šilalė. He composed over 100 vocal and instrumental works of various genres, 2 wind instrument quintets (1968 and 1980), works for the piano, vocal cycles, choral and solo songs, harmonized songs. Died on the 23rd of February 2013, at the Antakalnis cemetery in Vilnius.
  20. Jūragis Juozas–Almis. Lithuanian poet, journalist, editor, public figure of Lithuanians in Australia. Was born on 3rd of October 1917 in Baltkalnis (Laukuva volost). Died on the 4th of March 2014 in Sidney, Australia.
  21. Kairys Jurgis. Lithuanian pilot, flight instructor, aerobatic master, European and world aerobatic champion, winner of several world championships, winner of most FAI World Cup (Grand Prix) championships. Jurgis Kairys is recognised as the world’s best aerobatic flying without restrictions master from 19996 to 2006. Was born on the 6th of May 1952 in Sharypovo (Krasnoyarsk region, Siberia).
  22. Kairys Juozapas. Composer, musician, public figure. Was born on the 20th of June in Teneniai (Šilalė district). Died on the 11th of October 2008.
  23. Kedys Vaclovas. Teacher and choirmaster. Was born on the 30th of November 1930 in Mankaičiai (Šilalė district). He published methodological works, composed musical works for choirs. Died on the 28th of October 2015, buried in Vilnius Kairėnai cemetery.
  24. Kentra Albinas (slapyvardis – Aušra). Member of the Lithuanian resistance against the Soviet occupation, teacher, cinematographer, yearbook writer, volunteer soldier. Was born on the 29th of March 1929 in Gūbriai (Šilalė volost). Awarded the title of honourary citizen of Šilalė.
  25. Kinderis Juozas. Poet, librarian, Lithuania Minor bibliophile. Was born on the 19th of November 1930 in Maldūnai (Šilalė district). Died on 15th of April 2005 in Rusnė.
  26. Laurinaitytė Stanislava. Singer. Was born on the 30th of October 1927 in Zobielija (Šilalė volost). Died on the 25th of December 2012.
  27. Liatukas Pranas. Lithuanian public and military figure, Lieutenant General. Was born on the 29th of October 1876 in Padievaitis (Kvėdarna volost). On the 30th of January he was accused by the NKVD of being a member of the Lithuanian Liberation Army and arrested. After succumbing to torture, on the 9th of September 1945 died in the Lukiškiai prison hospital. Grave remains unknown.

  29. Lovčikas Klemensas. Samogitia's cultural and historical guardian, local historian, founder of a folk crafts museum. Was born on the 17th of March 1937 in Vytogala (Šilalė district).
  30. Misius Kazys. Lithuanian engineer, local historian. Researcher of the Lithuanian press ban, culture and economy in Lithuania in the 19th century, history of towns and villages. Was born on the 5th of December 1942 in Paymėžis (Šilalė district).
  31. Pocius Liudvikas. Artist, stained glass painter. Was born on the 23rd of August 1940 in Paymėžys (Šilalė district).
  32. Poška Dionizas. 19th century Lithuanian writer, one of the most famous cultural figures, founder of the first public museum in Lithuania. „Mužikas Žemaičių ir Lietuvos“(Samogitia and the Lithuania Peasant) is his most famous work. Was born in 1764 in Lėlaičiai (Mažeikiai district). From 1790 until his death he lived in Bardžiai, near Bijotai. Died in 1830, buried in Kaltinėnai cemetery.
  33. Petrošius Donatas. Poet, essayist. Was born on the 28th of November 1978 in Bijotai (Šilalė district).
  34. Raudonius Gvidas. Lithuanian ceramist. Was born on the 12th of May 1952 in Padvarninkai (Šilalė district).
  35. Rimkus Stanislovas. Lithuanian Catholic priest, a public figure. Was born on the 2nd of January 1912 in Pašlynas village (Kvėdarna eldership).
  36. Rubšys Antanas. Prelate, professor of the Bible, translated the Old Testament from Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek into Lithuanian. Was born on the 5th of November 1923 in Bučiai (Laukuva volost). Died on the 27th of August 2002 in New York.
  37. Siparis Juozas. Lithuanian drama actor. Was born on the 26th of February 1894in Kusiai (Šilalė district). Died on the 5th of April 1970 in Vilnius.
  38. Skaudvilaitė Elena. Poet. Was born on the 12th of May 1935 in Jautakiškiai (Kelmė district). For a time, was a teacher in region of Šilalė.
  39. Skrodenis Stasys. Lithuanian linguist, translator, folklorist. Was born on the 16th of January 1938 in Padvariai (Šilalė district).
  40. Stasytis Aloyzas. Journalist, photographer, singer. Was born on the 8th of March 1937 in Pajūralis (Šilalė district). Died on the 7th of April 2016, buried at Vilnius Kairėnai cemetery
  41. Statkevičius Vladas. Local historian. Was born on the 11th of May 1911 in Naujininkai (Eržvilkas volost). From 1949 he worked as a teacher in Šilalė. Died on the 27th of July 1999, buried in Šilalė cemetery. In 2006, Šilalė’s Museum was renamed to the Vlado Statkevičiaus Museum of Šilalė in his honour.
  42. Stulgaitė Birutė. Steel artist, creates jewellery and small sculptures. Was born on the 8th of August 1952 in Dryžai (Šilalė district).
  43. Šalčius Matas. Lithuanian journalist, writer, traveller, public figure. Was born on the 20th of September 1890 in Čiaudiškiai (Prienai district). Worked for four years as a teacher at the Vytogala primary school (Šilalės district). Died on the 26th of May 1940 in Guayaramerín (Bolivia), where he is buried.
  44. Šveikauskienė-Brazauskaitė Vlada. Teacher of Lithuanian language and literature, poet.
  45. Šulskytė Aldona. Teacher, member of the press, poet. Was born in 1930 in Gasčiūnai (Joniškis volost). Lived and worked in Laukuva for a long time. Died in 2008.
  46. Talat-Kelpša Kazys. Brigadier General of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. Was born on the 28th of October 1893 in Padievytis (Laukuva eldership). In 1944 escaped to Austria, in 1945 to Germany. On the 29th of October 1949 he emigrated to the USA. Died on the 1st of January 1968 in Chicago.
  47. Tamošaitis Regimantas. Literary scholar, writer, essayist, critic, author of textbooks for secondary schools, professor at Vilnius University. Was born on the 3rd of March 1956 in Skaudvilė (Tauragė district), later lived and studied in Šilalė.
  48. Toleikis Aloyzas. Lithuanian artist, sculptor, honoured artist, professor. Was born on the 12th of April 1931 in Gvaldai (Kvėdarna volost). Created dozens of portraits, decorative sculptures, medals, designed gravestones.
  49. Ūksienė – Rubšytė Teresė. Poet, teacher, Lithuanian and Šilalė district political and public figure. Was born on the 14th of June 1931 in Bučiai (Laukuva volost).
  50. Vaitkevičiutė-Rekašienė Daiva. Journalist, writer, prose writer, romance novel author, writer of Lithuanian television scripts. Was born on the 18th of January 1970 in Gomaliai (Telšiai district). From 1998 has been living in Šilalė.
  51. Vėlius Norbertas. Lithuanian ethnographer, religious scholar, worked in VMU. One of the most prominent collectors of Lithuanian ethnography, folklorist and Baltic mythology expert, world-renowned researcher of ethnic culture. One of the most important figures of the Lithuanian cultural movement. Laukuva gymnasium is named after him. He was born on 1st of January 1938 in Gulbės (Šilalė district). Died on the 23rd of June 1996 in Vilnius, buried in Antakalnis cemetery.
  52. Vidmantas Edvardas. Lithuanian historian, bibliographer, librarian. Was born on the 1st of October 1929 in Jomantai (Šilalė volost). Died on the 23rd of May 2014.
  53. Žilius Vladislovas. Artist, painter and sculptor. Was born on the 13th of May 1939 in Varsneliai (Šilalė district). Died in 2012.
  54. Patlaba Petras. Priest. Was born on the 1st of May 1909 in Varsėdžiai (Upyna eldership). On the 26th of May 1934 he graduated from Telšiai seminary and was ordained a priest. In 1944 he fled to the West, first to Germany, later to the USA. Died in 1986.
  55. Petkevičius Kazimieras. Folk master. Was born on the 23rd of September 1884 in Kūkariškiai (Laukuva eldership).
  56. Raibužis Juozas, Antano. Folk artist. Was born in 1898 in Gegrėnai parish (Plungė district). For a long time lived in Kvėdarna. Died on the 23rd of July 1958, buried in Kvėdarna cemetery.
  57. Raudonius Antanas. Folk master, sculptor, book smuggler. Was born on the 23rd of April 1871 in Pakalniškiai village (Pajūris eldership). Studied blacksmithing, was self-taught, but still literate and well-read. Died on the 28th of February 1939, buried in the old cemetery of Šiauliai.
