'Breathe life into your robot' is the title of the robotics classes held at the Šilalė District Municipal Public Library and provided as part of the Culture Pass service for schoolchildren. During the classes, children learn the basics of programming and how to build a robot from over 500 parts. Building Lego robots provides an excellent finger and mind exercise, encouraging creativity and imagination, and fostering motivation to learn about the latest technologies.
The classes are open to students in grades 4–8. Groups can have between 5 and 16 students (if there are more, separate arrangements will be made). Each class lasts 120 minutes. To participate in this educational activity, classes must register via the www.emokykla.lt system.
The educational activity consists of a theoretical and a practical part. During the theoretical part, students learn about robotics and the binary computer language, and during the practical session, they build Lego robots. They then participate in a robot sumo wrestling competition. At the end of the activity, a discussion about the new acquired knowledge and IT innovations is held.
The Šilalė District Municipal Public Library has many years of experience in organising robotics classes for students. In 2016, the library implemented the "Young Engineers' Laboratory" project and ran a three-month robotics course for students in the Šilalė district. In 2019, the library implemented the "Miracle of Engineering – Robotics in Your Hands" project. Twenty robotics classes were held during the project in the libraries of Obelynas, Upyna, Kvėdarna and Pajūralis. Sixty students aged 7 to 14 participated in them.
